Text Formatting

Every text option (header, footer, tablist-name-format, afk-tag, nametag.prefix and nametag.suffix) goes through the same renderer. MiniMessage tags and legacy & codes can be mixed in the same line.

MiniMessage

Standard MiniMessage tags work as written:

yaml
header:
  - 'BusyBee Network'
  - '<#55ffaa>Hex color and rainbow'

Legacy codes

Code Result
&0 to &9, &a to &f The 16 standard colors
&l &m &n &o &k Bold, strikethrough, underline, italic, obfuscated
&r Reset
&#RRGGBB Hex color, for example &#ff8a00

§ works in place of &.

A color code clears the styles before it, the same as in vanilla. &l&cText is red but not bold. Put the color first: &c&lText.

Mixing both

yaml
tablist-name-format: '&8[%vault_rank%&8] &f%player_name%'

Placeholders are replaced first, then the result is formatted. A prefix from LuckPerms or Vault can therefore contain & codes, MiniMessage tags or Nexo glyphs and they render normally.

⚠️ Mixing colors inside a MiniMessage tag

A legacy color code resets everything before it, including an open MiniMessage tag. In &cHello the &c ends the bold, and the leftover can show up as text. Inside a MiniMessage tag, use MiniMessage colors: <red>Hello</red>.

When a line can't be read

If a line can't be parsed, BusyTab shows it as plain text with no colors and carries on. Check for an unclosed quote or a broken tag.

Nexo glyphs

With Nexo installed, <glyph:my_icon> works in every text option. See Nexo.
