Rank Sorting

rank-order decides where each player sits in the tab list. List your groups from highest to lowest and the tab list follows that order.

Configuration

yaml
rank-order:
  - owner
  - admin
  - moderator
  - vip
  - default
Option Default Description
rank-order owner, admin, moderator, vip, default Group names, highest first
  • Names are matched without regard to upper or lower case.
  • A group that isn't listed sorts below every listed group.
  • Players in the same group are sorted by name.
  • Up to 999 groups keep their own position.

Which rank is used

BusyTab takes the first of these that gives a group name:

  1. The primary group from Vault or VaultUnlocked.
  2. The primary group from LuckPerms.
  3. %luckperms_primary_group_name% through PlaceholderAPI.

The names in rank-order must match what that source returns. With LuckPerms this is the group's name (admin), not its display name or prefix.

Sorting works even if your formats never show the rank.

How it works

The Minecraft client sorts the tab list by scoreboard team name. BusyTab puts each player in a team of their own on the main scoreboard, named after their position and name, for example bt-rank-001-steve for an admin called Steve. The same team carries the player's nametag.

A player's team is removed when they leave, and all bt-rank- teams are removed when BusyTab shuts down.

Turning sorting off

yaml
rank-order: []

Players are then sorted by name only. If nametags are also off, BusyTab doesn't use scoreboard teams at all.

⚠️ Other plugins that use teams

A player can only be in one scoreboard team at a time. BusyTab moves players into its own teams on every refresh, so a plugin that also assigns teams on the main scoreboard (another tab or nametag plugin, some minigames, team glow colors) will conflict. Use one plugin for the job, or turn off both rank-order and nametag here.
