Common Issues

%player_name% or %server_online% shows as raw text

Those come from PlaceholderAPI. Install it, then run /papi ecloud download Player, /papi ecloud download Server and /papi reload. See PlaceholderAPI.

The rank shows as empty brackets []

%vault_rank% has nothing to show. Either Vault isn't installed, or no permission plugin has registered with it. Look for Hooked into Vault/VaultUnlocked. in the console. If you run LuckPerms without Vault, use %luckperms_primary_group_name% or %luckperms_prefix% instead.

Players aren't sorted by rank

  • The names in rank-order must match your group names exactly (case doesn't matter). With LuckPerms, check with /lp user <name> info and use the primary group.
  • Another plugin may be moving players into its own scoreboard teams. See Rank Sorting.

Nametags don't show

  • Check that nametag.enabled is true and run /busytab reload.
  • You never see your own nametag. Check with a second account, or press F5.
  • A sidebar or scoreboard plugin that gives each player their own scoreboard hides BusyTab's nametags. Check that plugin for a setting to use the main scoreboard.
  • Another nametag or tab plugin may be overriding the team. Use one plugin for nametags.

Nametags appeared after updating and I don't want them

Nametags are on by default. Add this to config.yml and run /busytab reload:

yaml
nametag:
  enabled: false

Death messages now show the rank prefix

That is the nametag. Vanilla uses it wherever it names a player. Turn nametags off, or leave nametag.prefix and nametag.suffix empty to keep only the name color.

The AFK tag never shows

%busytab_afk% needs EssentialsX. Look for Hooked into Essentials. in the console, and check that afk-tag isn't empty. The tag appears on the next refresh, not instantly.

Strikethrough or bold leaks into the next line

Put style codes after the color: &8&m not &m&8. Each color code clears the styles before it, so a divider line doesn't affect the line below. See Text Formatting.

TPS shows N/A

That is normal for a moment after startup. It fills in once ticks have been measured.

The tab list updates slowly

refresh-interval sets how often it updates (default 5s). If it's slower than that, a PlaceholderAPI expansion is taking too long. See the Performance Guide.
