Installation

  1. Check the Requirements: Java 21+, Paper, Purpur or Folia on 1.21+.
  2. Download the latest release from busybeedev.net.
  3. Drop the jar into your server's plugins/ folder.
  4. Start (or restart) the server. On first run, BusyTab creates plugins/BusyTab/config.yml. That one file holds every setting. There is no database.
  5. Edit the header, footer, name format, rank order and nametag (see Main Configuration).
  6. Apply changes without restarting: /busytab reload (permission busytab.reload).

Verifying it's working

BusyTab logs one line for each optional plugin it hooked. Only the plugins you have installed appear:

[BusyTab] Hooked into Nexo for glyph tags.
[BusyTab] Hooked into Vault/VaultUnlocked.
[BusyTab] Hooked into LuckPerms.
[BusyTab] Hooked into Essentials.
[BusyTab] Hooked into PlaceholderAPI.

Then join the server and press Tab. You should see the header, footer and formatted names within a second of joining.

If a line you expected is missing, see Troubleshooting.

Updating

Replace the jar and restart.

BusyTab does not add new options to your config.yml. A setting that is missing from your file uses its built-in default, so an update keeps working without any edits. To change a new setting, add its key yourself. Each key and its default is listed on the Main Configuration page.

⚠️ Updating from a version without nametags

The nametag section is on by default, even when your config.yml doesn't have it yet. After updating, players get the default prefix &8[&e%vault_rank%&8] above their heads. To turn it off, add this to config.yml and run /busytab reload:

yaml
nametag:
  enabled: false

Uninstalling

Remove the jar and restart. BusyTab removes its scoreboard teams when it shuts down, so no prefixes or sort order are left behind. plugins/BusyTab/ stays on disk; delete it yourself for a clean removal.
