The Minigame
Every ripple catch is two phases: a timing phase where you hit a closing ring, then a reeling fight against the fish. Any fishing rod works.
1. The bite
Cast into a ripple and wait. A fish bites after 2 to 5 seconds with the bobber inside the ripple. If the bobber drifts out first, the wait starts over.
2. Timing
A ring starts large and closes in on a fixed target ring. Click Use or Attack as it crosses the target.
| Value | Notes | |
|---|---|---|
| Ring starts at | 2.0 |
|
| Target ring | 0.5 |
|
| Hit window | within 0.12 of the target |
0.08 during a thunderstorm |
| Perfect window | within 0.05 of the target |
|
| Fish escapes at | 0.2 |
if the ring gets this small without a hit |
The text under the rings reads CLICK NOW! in green while you're inside the window, and a chime
plays as it opens. After each hit the ring resets to full size, with a half-second pause before the
next click counts.
A click outside the window loses the fish. Wait for the green prompt; mashing doesn't work.
Hits needed and ring speed by tier:
| Tier | Hits needed | Ring speed (per tick) |
|---|---|---|
| ๐ต Common | 2 | 0.025 |
| ๐ข Rare | 3 | 0.035 |
| ๐ Epic | 4 | 0.05 |
| ๐ก Legendary | 5 | 0.06 |
Ring speed is multiplied by minigame_difficulty_multiplier and by 1.2ร in rain.
3. Reeling
After the last hit, a tension bar (T) and a progress bar (P) appear. Progress starts at 25%.
- Hold Use to reel: progress and tension both go up.
- Release Use to ease off: tension falls by
0.02a tick, and progress slips back. - Win: progress reaches 100%.
- Line snap: tension reaches 100%.
- Escape: progress falls to 0%.
So it's a rhythm: hold to gain ground, let go before the tension bar tops out. Holding the whole time always snaps the line.
| Tier | Tension per tick held | Progress per tick held | Progress lost per tick released |
|---|---|---|---|
| ๐ต Common | 0.015 |
0.012 |
0.004 |
| ๐ข Rare | 0.020 |
0.010 |
0.007 |
| ๐ Epic | 0.021 |
0.0105 |
0.0075 |
| ๐ก Legendary | 0.0215 |
0.0098 |
0.0079 |
Every tier is winnable. Epic and Legendary leave much less room for error than Common and Rare.
minigame_difficulty_multiplier doesn't change reeling, only ring speed.

Perfect Catch
A catch is Perfect when every hit landed inside the perfect window (0.05). One hit outside it,
but still inside the hit window, keeps the catch going and loses only the Perfect bonus. A
Lucky Bait makes your next landed catch Perfect no matter
how the hits went.
A Perfect Catch gives you:
- Double loot: every ordinary item's stack size is doubled. Bows, enchanted books and fishing rods are never doubled.
- +5 XP, plus +20 XP more if the catch had a bow, enchanted book or rod in it.
- One bonus roll: a 15% chance of another 10โ15 XP, or else a 10% chance of Luck for 30 seconds. Never both.
- Bigger fish: the size is rolled
perfect_catch_size_rollstimes (default 2) and the largest kept. - A level-up sound and a burst of splash and bubble particles.
Rewards on every catch
- Loot from the tier's loot table, picked by biome. See Biomes & Loot.
- 1โ6 XP.
- A size for each fish species in the catch, shown in the catch message, for example
Caught a Catfish (74cm)!. A first catch is tagged[NEW SPECIES!], a new biggest[NEW RECORD!]. See Fishing Journal.
If your inventory is full, the catch drops at your feet.
