Biomes & Loot

Ripple loot depends on where you fish. The biome under the bobber picks one of four flavours, and the ripple's tier then rolls that flavour's table.

Flavour Detected as
๐ŸŒŠ Ocean Any biome tagged #minecraft:is_ocean: every ocean variant, deep, warm, lukewarm, cold and frozen.
๐ŸŒด Jungle Any biome whose id contains jungle: jungle, sparse_jungle, bamboo_jungle.
๐ŸŠ Swamp Any biome whose id contains swamp: swamp, mangrove_swamp.
โฌœ Other Everything else: rivers, plains, beaches, deserts and so on.

The checks run in that order, so a biome that matched more than one would count as the first. Modded biomes are picked up the same way if they carry the ocean tag or have jungle or swamp in their id.

The biome is read when you land the fish, from the bobber's block, and nothing is cached. Fishing right on a biome border can change flavour between casts.

Legendary ripples ignore the biome. They always roll the one legendary table, which holds the Starfin Leviathan.

Which table is rolled

Tier Ocean Swamp Jungle Other
Common ocean_common swamp_common jungle_common common
Rare ocean_rare swamp_rare jungle_rare rare
Epic ocean_epic swamp_epic jungle_epic epic
Legendary legendary legendary legendary legendary

All of them live under data/ddv_fishing/loot_table/gameplay/fishing/. To change them, see Custom Loot Tables.

Each table rolls once. "Junk table" and "Treasure table" below are vanilla's own minecraft:gameplay/fishing/junk and minecraft:gameplay/fishing/treasure, so they give exactly what vanilla fishing would.

Custom fish by biome

๐ŸŒŠ Ocean Ocean Pearl Epic (20%)
๐ŸŒŠ Ocean Large Fish Epic (30%)

๐ŸŒด Jungle Exotic Fish Rare and Epic (25%)
๐ŸŒด Jungle River Piranha Epic (40%)

Each biome's two fish can drop from all three of that biome's tables. They never drop anywhere else.

Testing biomes without travelling

With cheats on, /fillbiome repaints the biome around you, and the very next catch uses it:

/fillbiome ~-8 0 ~-8 ~8 320 ~8 minecraft:jungle
/fillbiome ~-8 0 ~-8 ~8 320 ~8 minecraft:swamp
/fillbiome ~-8 0 ~-8 ~8 320 ~8 minecraft:warm_ocean

/fillbiome doesn't reshape terrain, so make sure there's water in the area first. Or find a real one with /locate biome minecraft:jungle and teleport there.
